The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our first choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.
It's still a great deal for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and operates when you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, however it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with mixed flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's compact models this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some additional cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty the areas are.
For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a number of furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very beneficial.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It has an impressive 8000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we have test. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
